Hello everyone. I have been asked to take over all operations of an existing web site due to the original builder being sent to Cairo, Egypt for an extended and open ended period of time. Information from him indicates that he built the site using Internet Explorer 8, Windows XP and an unnamed FTP uploader software . I am using Explorer 8 and Windows XP. My question, is Coffeecup the right product for my needs? The web site is very basic with little or no bells and whistles and I prefer to keep it basic. There is currently an audio player but I plan to ad a video player and downloadable music files, high res. photos and yadda, yadda, yadda. I'm not a web page developer tho I have used many of the free web site builders out there since 1997 and used CoffeeCup several years ago but from what I see, much has changed. Dollars are not the issue and I don't mind spending time learning. I just want to be sure this is what my needs require. Thank you in advance for any and all advice! Here's my starting point.

You can do the job easily with CoffeeCup HTML Editor. You can open the existing pages and edit them, insert all the yadda yadda yadda you want. The Editor has a built-in FTP client for uploading the pages. If you prefer an independent FTP client, CoffeeCup also has the DFTP.

Well, he didn't build the site using the Internet Explorer browser. He used an editor of some sort, like the CC HTML Editor. It's not that hard. You will be a webmaster before you know it. Maybe even go pro.

Hiya Barney,

Yep sounds like the HTML Editor will do the trick nicely for you as others have already confirmed. Yes you can very well use a simple text editor such as Notepad (not Wordpad or anything Word oriented as those programs tend to add hidden extraneous code that you can't see, but messes up things none the less).

But, I can say from using the HTML Editor for many years now that it's a whole lot more help than a blank text file is lol. Lots of buttons to instantly add some codes for you, and you can even save things in it for later use (Snippets this would be) as well as it is also capable as mentioned above already, to connect to the FTP for you so you don't really "need" a separate FTP program for your site files. It does come in handy for uploading and downloading things that are outside of your HTML Editor projects though so it's up to you if you feel you might need that or not.

Thank you so much Jo Ann. This is indeed a very helpful place. I've downloaded the trial in hopes of understanding all I need to but there is much to be learned. As with CoffeeCup, I'm getting an education from Nexcess as well and they don't appear to play well with others tho their support staff has been very helpful. They kinda give you a point and grunt without telling one just what all those buttons, icons and do-hickies do. I'm sure I shall return here for more help so if you get tired of my questions, I mind real well. Thanks again all of you!

I'm sure after playing around with the HTML Editor for a bit you'll see just how handy all the buttons, bells and do-hickies can be lol. Don't forget to mouse over them to see what they are if you're not sure. The program has nice tooltips for telling you what something is called. Doesn't always tell you how to use it, but if you know the name you can always ask here or use Google or even better yet hit this website for any information about anything HTML, CSS, and quite a few other things.

Thanks for your reply Jo Ann. I have a pretty good handle on the CoffeeCup buttons, bells and do-hickies, it's the Nexcess server that is giving me a pain. Downloaded from the web the current homepage, added a photo and changed the "Hillbilly Music Reborn" clickable link to "Click to Enter" (just a word edit) and uploaded to Nexcess via FTP and they act like they don't know me. Simple replacement of an index.html but there are no instructions as to how I replace the old with the new...just a small edit console with assorted icons. Mouse over does not apply there. I can't even find the new index.html anywhere tho CC says it was a successfully upload.Their reply to this issue was their "go read the FTP tutorial", stock answer, which I have done more than once. Arggggggggg!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried clearing your browser cache? I've found on some servers I actually have to clear my cache for every stupid update, very annoying. Some servers I never have to clear it and it always updates. I haven't figured out yet why that is, but I do know that it is lol. Try clearing your browser cache and see if it shows you the changes then or not.
