Navigating Through VSD

So far I have been able to figure out how to set up webpages to do the things I want done. Thanks primarily to the helpful 'Help' file.

My problem is I'm not sure how VSD handles web pages within a website. I have so far set up a home page and 4 linked pages from a navigation bar on the home page. When I added the 4 linked pages, I was able to see all 5 pages tiled or whatever, on the screen at the same time. The problem occurred when I saved all the pages, closed VSD, and then tried opening the website the next morning. I clicked 'Open Website', and then clicked on the file name of the Home page of my website. I cannot see how to now open the other 4 pages of the website so that I can work on all of them at the same time. Clicking on 'Show Page' doesn't show me any of the other 4 pages. It appears as if I now have 5 individual websites, instead of one website with 5 pages.

What am I missing here??

Thanks in advance for any help.

p.s. I don't know if this is the problem, but possibly. Even though I saved each of the individual web pages, I never did a 'Close Website' from 'File' on the Menu Bar. I didn't see this mentioned in the Help file. If this is the problem, is there any way for me to get all the pages back into a single website.

Hi Stew, VSD is setup to publish all the html pages it generates to the root of the domain. There are ways around this but can be very complicated to keep track of. Go ahead and create your site in one VSD mysitename_website file. Add as many pages as you need and add links to them on each page.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

You should only be saving your website, not individual pages. As Eric mentioned; you should create an index page in VSD. This is your home page. Go to Page Settings to name it and make it your home/index page.

Use the Add Pages button to create additional pages. You can choose to copy the lay-out of your index page if you wish so your background, etc. will be in place already. Then in Page Settings name these pages (about us, contact....). Use the Link Icon to create your page links.

When you save your site, VSD will create all the files it needs (.vnu, files folder, html pages). Then when you open your site in VSD, you can use the Pages drop-down to get to which ever page you want to work on – they'll all be right there within your site. :)

Thanks both for your help. Fortunately, the linked pages were just copies of the top portion of the Home page, including the navigation bar and some graphics. Shouldn't take too much time to restructure the package. I think I understand how the files work now.

Great!
We're always here if you need anything else – or at least Eric is

As you progress with VSD, you might want to check out the site in his sig; lots of good demos and scripts for expanding what you can do with VSD ;)
