I want to use the Visual Editor with...

I am using 3Dcart to build an online store to sell electronic cigarettes. I won't have that many products and I want to make their descriptions as compelling as possible. The way 3DCart works is that you provide HTML code for each product that is loaded into the product database and is executed dynamically at run time.

The WYSIWYG editor that comes with 3Dcart is woefully lacking so I have been looking for an alternative to create that HTML that I could then paste into the product definition.

I played with he visual editor for a couple of hours this afternoon and it is by far the most capable that I have tried yet. It has a lot of capabilities for really formatting a nice page.

The only issue I have but unfortunately it's a deal breaker, is that the HTML that is created forces it self to start displaying in the upper left handcorner of my page as opposed to displaying within the product description area of the page. I hope that makes sense.

I guess what I am asking is whether I can use this tool to create html that will be included by a larger page. I don't know html well enough to just use the basic editor, I need the visual help.

I apologize for the typos but I will never get used to this tablet keyboard.

I meant Visual Site Designer not the Visual Editor. I loaded the basic HTML Editor first and couldn't find the Visual Editor, prompting me to download the trial for VSD, which I loved except for the issue I a having. Btw, I tried t edit this post and the link to edit failed. Thanks

The HTML that is generated by VSD overlays my entire page, which makes perfect sense as it is designed to create an entire page. I was wondering if I could use it to create the HTML that I paste into my product description area.

For I test I just used some basic text and four boxes in a two by two arrangement

I got the following result in the attached file. Ideally the text and boxes would have shown up underneath the description

I would try using an Iframe to display the VSD page in your shop page.

Have I read this correctly 3Dcart $20.00 per month

Why not use VSD & SCC & SCD to do the whole thing, they integrate nicely

Then buy a hosting package from someone like JH ( or many others ) which paid 5 years in advance will cost you in total 1/2 of what you are paying for 1 year.

And you will have far more control, and lots of free help from us in the CC forum.

Actually by the sound of it, you might not even need VSD as the whole thing could be done in SCC & SCD with a little help from your free VSD trial.

However if SEO is important to you the VSD approach is a very good one.

Unless SCOTT pipes in with a deal for a 1 product shop, and a handful of items hosted on SDRIVe, it has already been suggested, and i bet will be an option in time ;)

Eric,

An Iframe sounds like it is exactly what I need (though I really don't know what it is exactly). Unfortunately when I searched the VSD help documentation I couldn't find a way to create one.

Viv,

I hear ya. I got a little better deal than $20 per month by paying for 12 months upfront but it is still pretty steep. They through in some canned integrations too. (that said it's a lot better than Volusion which was almost $100 per month for what I needed).

I thought for a bit about building my own site and will be working toward that but 3DCart has all of the integration built in that I needed, ie. payment gateway, merchant services, endicia for mailing, quickbooks for accounting, inventory tracking, etc. Starting with a template I was able to have most of everything functional in a couple of days. Now I'm working on getting this looking good.

That said I will be working on my "independent" site over the next 12 months. For future reference what products are SCC and SCD? I am a total Noob at all of this. I did traditional programming for a software company for over 20 years but this web stuff is totally new to me.

Thanks everyone.

tomcrable :: have a look at my delorean site in signature, 100% CC

I have two such sites one is a clone of the other (buy 1 get 1 free, or as many as you like )

Hosted on Jh cost me £25.00 per year with a few other sites on as well

All the cart design done in SCDP and the cart itself is SCCP with google checkout and Paypal built in

The 20 + homepages are VSD ::few hidden ones like a new video /delftclaycasting.html

Even hosted on CC it would be cheaper than you are paying now $15.00 per month (not in advance)

No fancy accounts, but good sales stats etc and the usual CC reliability, have a closer look its worth while.

Eric,

I tried the code and it is drawing the frame but it isn't putting the page inside it. I have tried several ways to identify the SRC attribute and I think I am pointing to the correct file as when I put in an invalid address I would get a 404 like error.

The URL is http://www.tropicalvapors.com/Epower-14 … t_p_8.html

I created a folder called Coffeecup underneath my 3DCart templates. It contains a file folder that has images in it and two files, Page_1.html and index.html. I've tried pointing to both of these to no avail.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
