HTML Editor template/theme update

Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing the HMTL Editor, and probably will, but I'm just wondering at the moment if there is any way to automatically update pages based on a theme, when changes are made to that theme after the pages based upon it have already been created.

After searching through the forums, my impression is that the HTML editor doesn't provide this feature. That the only way to do this is a rather tedious copy-paste (which is what I've already had to do for a previous project). I'm just asking to confirm whether this is correct, or if I've missed something.

If the HTML Editor can't do this, does anyone know of any other tools or methods for doing this automatically? The pages I'm creating are for offline use (on a DVD to be exact), so I can't use any web server mechanisms to achieve this.

If not, I'll probably just write my own program to do it, which I'm happy to. I just don't want to waste the effort doing so if there's an easier way that anyone may know about.

Thanks.

I'm not using the ready made themes, I make my own. But hang on, I'll try to find out for you...

It doesn't have to be the ready made themes necessarily. Just any main template html file containing any content to be repeated across all pages (main menus etc.) be it the provided themes or otherwise.

I've had word from the 'CC towers'. When a theme gets updated, you have to copy-paste the site into the new template, I'm afraid.

This does make perfect sense if you think about it though, unlike most of the other CC programs, this one has no main file for opening your site files. Yes it has the file for your project, but that is basically just your settings for what directory to open and server settings for upload/download. Most of the programs from CC have a set file that contains all your files for that particular software. VSD has the .vnu file which contains all your site files, SCC(& Pro) has the .scc file which contains your shop files, most of the flash programs use the .xml files and so on down the line.

HTML Editor has not got that restriction and I can't imagine the amount of work it would take to even attempt to make this an automatic updater since we edit the files extensively once the themes are used. How would it even begin to know what to change and not change? We change not only the HTML code itself, but we adjust and add/remove things from the CSS files also. It would be a mess if it autoupdated as we wouldn't know what it changed and we'd have to go back and make all our changes again etc. In the end I think it would end up just as much work to readjust it as it will be to just do it manually.

Hopefully that makes sense as a reasonable explanation as to why this is probably not something we'll see with the HTML Editor. I don't think any other code editors have any features like this either, but I could be wrong :P

I've moved the Macro suggestion to the suggestions thread for HTML Editor in case anyone was looking for it and wanted to chime in on it :)

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
