How do I link a pdf file to my webpage?

I am about to purchase Visual Site Designer but when I reviewed the 50 pages of "help" info on the trial version....there is no information on how to add a pdf file to my webpage.

What I want to do is create links on my webpage to connect to the pdf file which should be easy.

However, I was told by my hosting rep that the pdf file must be added to CoffeeCup somehow......since hyper-linking it directly to the pdf file without adding it to CoffeeCup may create a download menu.

I only want my visitor to view the pdf file when you click my CoffeeCup button after I create the button on my webpage.

Any suggestion on how to do this? Thanks

That is actually very easy to do! Just add say and image or text to your page then highlight the text (or select the image) and then click the Link Toolbar Icon. At the botton of the Link Properties dialog, use the Link to Document option. The software will do the rest.

Make sure though to only use alpha-numeric characters and no spaces in the filename.

Scott
I successfully linked my pdf file so I will be purchasing the program.

One small hangup: When I first started using the program, the program automatically loaded the pdf file from my C drive to my host server without any problems.

However, during my later edits, it suddenly deleted the same files off my server. No biggie since I simply added the pdf file back to my server via Windows XP but the Coffeecup program does not want to do it like it did before. i.e. automatically load the pdf file from my C drive to my host server.

I suspect it may have to do the some spaces or some non-alpha-numeric characters in the filename as you mentioned in your previous thread. Could this mess up the program?

In any case, is there any way to restore this feature so that the program does NOT delete the pdf files from the server when I edit in the future? Thanks I am a happy customer.

Are you sure it was deleted from the server instead of just a location/link change?
Aren't you a little short for a Storm Trooper?

Hi Scott,

I followed the instructions you gave to Victor to link PDF's to VSD,I added a text box, but I got the message below when I went to review. I also added a graphic, but got the same result.

"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (c) isn't associated with any program."

My file name is "suitability.pdf" it has no added spaces.

Any suggestions? Thanks

There isn't much that can be done about it. The real way to test it out is to publish your website.

Hi Scott,

I've published it - linked to a trial page and it works. Many thanks.

I'm experiencing the same problem Scott was having evening after published the site.

The other problem I'm having is when I establish the link (linking a .pdf file to text). I have a list of my employees that I'm trying to link their bios to their name (see list below). However, I'm only able to link one BIO. For example, Whatever link I establish last, becomes the link for them all. Therefore, if I check the properties of the first entry below (Deborah Frechette), it lists Andreea Karlen's bio.
