Doing basic changes to existing website

Hi, I had my website programmed by a third party and would like to do minor changes (to start with: changes to the text or perhaps even add a row to a table).
I am not a tecchie and CoffeeCup was recommended to me as a tool that can be used by laymen to be able to run a website without having to go back for every minor change to a third party.
Therefore, my question:
how do I make basic changes to my already existing website?
Some questions which I assume are relevant:
Can I do all changes by using my FTP access rights?
Where do I input the FTP access information?
Do I need to keep all web files/ source code on my PC?

Thanks in advance for your support,
Constantin

If your talking basic changes to an existing site then CC's HTML editor should do the trick. The only concern I have is that you want to make basic changes on a site that's not basic. If you site is huge or the content on your pages is numerous it might take a little while to find the spot to change. With the editor you only need to download the page you want to change then ftp it back up for the changes to take affect. The html editor has a neat project setup so that if your working with multiple sites you can set it to only show the files involved with the site your working on. The ftp password and username are entered into the server settings where you can also give your server a nickname making it easy to keep track of. If using projects the editor will remember what server you use for that site so all you have to do is click upload and not select a server from the list.:)

There 's a free trial. I suggest you give it a try.:)

Constantin,

To your last question about keeping all the source files on your pc. I'd say yes, do that. Servers may go down, be hacked and other nasty things, and if you lose the contents of your site, you can easily upload it again and be back in business in no time.

Might I also suggest that you download your full site as a backup before you start editing. This way you will always have the original page to fall back on to reupload if you don't quite get it right for a while. Since it sounds like you're pretty new to this, that would be a very smart thing to do so you don't overwrite what's there now and mess it up accidentally *coughs* not that I've ever done that *coughs* lol. Anyways' it's a good smart thing to do and then to do periodically just so you always are safe as Inger says. Hacks, crashes, servers frying, etc. happen, always good to have a backup you can fall back on.

This way you can play around with a page or pages to your hearts content to see how it all works, without worrying about messing it up and losing it. Makes learning and playing a whole lot more fun and safer :)
