Creating link loses text

I highlighted text and then tried to create a link, but the text vanished. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe your specified link color happens to coincide with your background color...?

I would agree. I've seen this having a blue, purple, or lime green background in VSD.

It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.
