I'm a user just like you. I am not a CC employee. I just hang out here helping users like yourself with problems. Nobody did any bait and switch.:) I never told you to try the trial version and you haven't spent any $ so I would say all is good. I don't know why you were having the problems with the free version. I would send an email to CC to see if they can point you in the right direction as it seems that something is up. Did you try running the free version as Admin?:)

Eric,

I'm sorry...I didn't mean to dump on you. I appreciate the fact that you were only trying to help. I was a computer programmer for 25 years and I know it is no fun trying to deal with users who can't get software to work properly. But, honestly, there IS something wrong with the "free" version of this app. It could be something to do with Windows 7, but the clue is that the "pay for" version DOES work. I've been using it for several hours now, downloaded several of my websites (I have about 12), and it seems to be fine.

I really do thank you for trying to help, but please pass on to your technical people that there is a problem with the "free" app. And, yes, I did try running it as Admin.

Be well...

Bill

It's all good. Hope you get all your files downloaded.:) I'll give the free version a try tomorrow on my pc at work to see if I can replicate the problem.:)

The FREE version only allows you to connect and upload to S-Drive with the built-in upload. If you want to upload to your own FTP server, you would need the TRIAL/PAID version or upload with an FTP client.

It has actually been that way for sometime, but we are going to modify the software in the next update to allow FTP uploading. Since the software is free, we felt S-Drive uploading was good enough, but it seems to have caused more confusion then it is worth. ;)

Scott,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I wrote computer programs for a major insurance company for 25 years. One thing you try to do with users is NOT to confuse them. If a feature is not available in an application, whether because it is still in beta or because it is only a "trial" version, make sure they know it. Otherwise, they will be clicking on it forever, thinking that it should work. There is nothing wrong with holding back features in a "free" or "trial" version of an app...just be up front about it not being available.

Thank you and Eric for clarifying the issue.

Bill

P.S. I do like the "pay for" version of your HTML Editor very much!
