Hi,

I've managed to get my website up and running (thanks to CC), but have loaded a background image for the site and by me at home when I do a preview it works fine, but when I upload it and look at it in a browser the picture isn't there!!! uh!!?!!

What's going wrong?

Please let us have an url to your site, then we might find out what's going wrong. Otherwise we would only be guessing, like

- forgotten to upload the background pic
- uploaded it to the wrong place
- wrong naming of the image file, like 'Image' instead of 'image'
- if VSD, forgotten to add the image to the project
etc... etc...

Hi Inger,

Thanks for the quick reply.

The link is : www.midlife-crisis-ltd.de

It's a band website and I wanted to add a background photo. I used VSD and it could be that your last suggestion is the one that corrects it. How do you do what you suggest?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've only recemtly started and have been impressed with how quickly I've achieved a fairly good lokking site.

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately I'm on a Linux machine right now and won't be back on my Windows system for a couple of days. Also, I normally don't use VSD myself. I don't remember exactly by heart, but after you have inserted the image there should be something showing 'Add Files' where you have to look up the image you want to use. That will cause VSD to copy the file to the 'files' folder. Try catching the attention of Jewelcraft or Paintbrush, they are experts on VSD. :)

Anyway, I don't find the image Leather0028_1_thumbhuge.jpg on your server.

Your background mast be added like this :
open edit and select add files then click on icon with little plus and browse for your background or if you want create folder and then do same thing.

This is needed for all your material used in your site out side of VSD (not created in VSD).

HI Mike ,
as not to confuse you anymore then you are, I believe what you can do is go to "Settings" then select "background fill properties" then select "use an image" browse to locate your background image and then save and upload, this will place your image in the files folder, or use an direct ftp or whatever ftp client you wish and just place that image into the files folder on your server.

After adding background in a way like my previews post then save and your background will be in "files" folder witch is in your site folder, then browse for it when adding background from VSD.

Thanks, Inger (not so much an expert as an experimenter!)
Michael, in VSD7 there are 2 different add background functions - one for the page itself, and the other for what shows beyond the page in the browser window. Do as Bruzer says for the browser background (under Settings and select image), then go to Page properties to set the background (color, gradient, image) for your page. I like to have all my image files in a folder with my VSD site; example:
My Documents>
My Site>
Photos folder
Graphics folder
VSD site (folders created by VSD)
So all elements used on the site are within one main folder. This lessens the chance of accidentally moving something and "breaking" its connection to the site. Even if you're sure your image file is where it should be, I would still go to Edit > Add Files and add that image file to make sure it gets uploaded to the site.

Hi all,

thanks for all the suggestions, but I've eventually solved the problem. It turned out it was uploading all the files from the photos origin directory and in there, was a file format that was not recognised and therefore, it stopped at that point but didn't register an error.

Like Paintbrush said, it's best to have all your files in a relevant directory and then this problem won't occurr.
