Your syntax-highlighting preferences...

I think I'd have to lean more toward what Jo Ann is saying about colors being grouped by more of a family grouping (ie HTML, PHP, Javascript, CSS). Being fairly new to coding these types of files, but not new to coding entirely ;), I would use the color scheming mostly to help me track syntax for proper formatting and possible errors. So, sort of a learning tool, sort of a lazy mans bug tracer... I can also see merits of using it as was mentioned above "change anything that is black, touch any other color and I'll cut your fingers off!!!" LOL :D

Just wanted to add that the colour preferences available at the present time have been sufficient for my needs up until now so your asking the question has put me in a spot...I haven't ever actually broken down the preferences into the options you mention, so this is all rather hypothetical for me! What I would hate to see is a good selection of colour preferences (currently available) disappear, that's for sure.
