I've uploaded it like the photo but nothing Scott. I'm seriously thinking of giving it up as a bad joke. I've put websites up with frontpage & dreamweaver. I thought this would be a bit easy & speedy but obviously not. Thanks for your help.

Have you taken the time yet to read the manual or watch the video tutorials? As with anything in life, there is a learning curve when starting something new.

Yes as mentioned above done it word for word watch the video & watched other vids on You tube! Not been a great weekend. They look fine in the html editor then when uploaded it won't even show the picture.

That then means you are not either uploading the files or you are uploading them to the wrong location.

I can sense your frustration Robert.

I've had a similar thing happen myself and I found that for some reason...probably something I was doing... the files were being uploaded into a duplicate folder.

In that situation what I find the easiest to do is use a direct FTP program and CoffeeCup has a free one, so even better.

That way you can open up your folder on your computer that has your files and connect to your server and open up the public_html folder and add your files directly there.

I think you mentioned your photo was in a folder called "Files" so you will need to make sure there is a folder of that name within the public_html folder and add the image there.

Much easier to keep tabs on whats going on that way.

So the web page is looking for the image in a subdirectory named files and can't find it. I already suggested the CoffeeCup free FTP program to visually check what is on the server.

Robert, you stated that you renamed the image but the browser still can't find it. I have tried to find it in the root and in the subdirectory. It's not there.


The second problem is that you say you changed the name of the image to replace the spaces with underscores but the html <img> tag still has the spaces and not underscores. The html should reflect the true image name and path.

If you are using the visual editor to do this, perhaps remove the image from the page, reinsert, and upload to see if that resolves the problem.

The issue is definitely not with the software, though.

The files could have been uploaded into the root folder on the server and so will not be seen in a browser.

Different servers use different folder names where all files should be uploaded to, could be either - public_html, htdocs, public etc, check if files should be uploaded to a specific folder and then check your settings in the VSD built-in ftp

Could it be that you have not added the images to the project by using the "Add Files" section in VSD, if not then they would not get up uploaded.

Rob, if you really get nowhere with your files, maybe open a support ticket and let one of the support staff have ftp access to your domain on the server. A lot of people have done that to have various problems solved, and the staff is very reliable when it comes to passwords and such. Besides, you can probably change the password afterwards anyway.

Some hosting do not provide a public_html, htdocs, public etc, folder, as Jim has suggested. The root / is the public_html, htdocs, public etc, folder for the hosting account and you can not navigate any higher in the tree. It all depends how the web server is configured.

Yes, I have come across some of those. Maybe Rob could let us know who he is hosted with. Then someone here might get a better idea...
