There's also Photoshop Elements, which is quite powerful for the price, and of course Paint Shop Pro.

For freeware The Gimp is very powerful, though I'd not call it user-friendly, and a new package is out called Artweaver that is amazingly powerful for a free offering.

I checked out the free Artweaver, and I was quite impressed. And the loading time was very fast compared to some other apps.

Yeah, a professional artist friend turned me on to it; he's a betazoid for Photoshop and CorelDraw as well as the author of several books on both, and he knows how to wring out an app. He's impressed, too. I keep meaning to spend some quality time learning it, but haven't managed yet.

I have only checked out the free version, and it can be learnt pretty fast. Don't know about the paid version, which apparently has some more features.
