Google: runaway slave movie

You'll see this, right at the top:

Now I forget what they call that spread on Google, but there's a term for it. You cant buy it - they deem the site to be one of major importance and do a spread like that in the search results. But does it depend on how many visits it gets, or on something in the layout, that gets them to deem it that way? Anyone know?

What do they call this kind of site again, and how is it created to get them to list it that way?

I would suggest Googling "how to have multiple links on Google" I came up with a convo at http://groups.google.com/a/googleproduc … zF19grPAbQ

Also, try submitting a sitemap using http://www.coffeecup.com/sitemapper/ to Google using their http://www.google.com/webmasters/ site.

I have the Google XML Sitemaps plugin in Wordpress, that's supposed to be doing that, but Google Webmaster says there are no sitemaps. Huh?

That was it! Sitelinks!
http://support.google.com/webmasters/bi … swer=47334

From that convo: If you are referring to sitelinks that appear in the search results, where links to particular pages or sections also appear for a particular website in addition to the link to the home page, these are generated automatically by google based on a formula more secret than the one for kentucky fried chicken. It's one of the great mysteries of the universe how it happens.

Ah, but someone must know how?

Interesting, but obviously I don't know how to get to be #1 in the organic listings, as I'd LOVE to!

Then the other things he lists there...

Make a site with a clear hierarchy and text links. Seems to be the secret...

Basically what your site looks like in an outline view. With no images, or CSS.

I wish I could afford someone to clean my site up, get rid of the tables, and make it totally google friendly in these ways.

Or I have to learn how to do it myself. <sigh> But I'm trying to pay the bills here...

I would suggest saving up each month. To complete a total redo of your site could cost from $50-$5000... Just depends on what you have and what you want. But to just remove deprecated code should be in the range of $200-$500.
