I have completely redsign my website using CC. I am ready to replace the old website which was built with Frontpage. There are several files/folders on the server that will not be used in the new version.

What is the best way to handle this? Delete everything from the server before starting the upload? Any other ideas?

thanks,
roger

I have been through that myself some years ago, and I deleted all the redundant files and folders.

I would make a backup of the old site first (just in case) and delete everything before uploading the new.

I am not sure that I know all of the processes involved in making a backup from the server and deleting the files from the server. Is there a source somewhere that gives directions for this?

If you are using CoffeeCup Direct FTP, you can connect to the site, click on the files/folders you want to back up, and then select 'Archive' from the menu bar. The programme will then zip all the things you have selected and download it. Of course you'll have to specify the name for the zip file and the location on your computer where you want to have it stored. It can't get easier really!

Thanks everyone for your help. I was able to archive the data from the server with your help after I downloaded the CC Direct FTP client. I will probably endup buying it, but thanks to CoffeeCup for making software available for a trial period.

I have the new web site up and running, exckept for several pages that I will add later. I welcome anyone to take a look and give me some feedback.

Hi.
I hope you don't mind, but your link does not work. It is not written properly, and should be:

http://www.overtrimwoodworks.com

If you put the : after the // the link won't work.

Hi Roger,

CC has a free FTP application for download. http://www.coffeecup.com/free-ftp/ Install this and put in your website configuation> connect to your website and go to the public_html directory. Here you will be able to download your entire site to a folder on your computer. If you need help, use the help in the Free FTP application it will walk you through the process.
