I am working on a new version of a site now, which is in a subfolder where the current site is. I have not yet added the favicon to the new version, but it still shows.

Inger, I am not sure but I think you might have to disallow the subfolder in your robot.text file until it is ready to replace the old folder. This might stop the favicon showing up.
