Saving menu to all pages - Page 1 -...

Have been using CC HTML for years but have never figured out how to add a page to our site without having to make changes to every page on our site to add it to the menu. My brother says I should use Microsoft or Dreamweaver cause it makes changes to all pages easily- and yes have tried it and it does work- but love my Cup of Joe better - is there a way to make changes? Have scanned the forums and help section with no results - help please.
Thanx - Lynn

There are various ways: SSI, PHP, Iframe and Object.
Of those four I would recommend php because it's very easy, you would have to rename your pages with the .php extension instead of .html. SSI is a bit old fashioned, and the two latter might need some fiddling about with dimensions on all the pages if you decide to make the menu longer and wider.

Just holler if you need these methods further explained.

If you have .htaccess you can add this line to your .htaccess file and it will enable php to be executed in an html page.

AddType application/x-httpd-php .html

I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I don't know which server setting it is, but the servers I have tried this on haven't been able to parse the files ending in html as php. I haven't really bothered to find out why, maybe I should take that as a new year resolution? ;)

I'm not a Coffee Cup HTML user. I am thinking of being...... But I do this with a simple DWT page. Is that something Coffee Cup has the ability to do???

Thanks. Dan.

Hiya Dan,

If you are talking about DW Templates/Libraries then no, the HTML Editor does not have that capability. You would need to use the services that were listed above by Inger to accomplish what you seek if you move away from the DW editor at all. I am pretty sure that those features are DW features only and won't work with any other software at all.

Thanks Jo Ann,
I'm sorry I should have been more specific... but you nailed it anyway. By DWT I meant Dynamic Web Template... that makes it really easy to keep a nice uniform layout. Not sure I want to give that up. ;)

It is just a linked file in the metadata of a page. It sets certain areas... ie... Menus as mentioned at the beginning of this thread.... that way when I want to change a menu on a page that is linked to the DWT, I just change the single DWT page and all pages linked to it automatically update.

Thanks again... congrats on the "Granny" thing!!!

Dan

I have exactly the same problem and that is why I have not been able to move my sites to CC VSD ( Jun 2014). It is a shame because CC has great pieces of software but still lacks of something like DWT. Renaming files would affect the SEO, so it is not an option

FP2003 functionality and simplicity have not been beaten yet . Hopefully CC does it :)

Hi there Freeflyer, although I respect your opinion I would have to strongly disagree with you. Microsoft FrontPage (if thats what you are referring too) does not even come close to the power of Responsive Layout Maker or for that matter almost any of CC software they are currently selling. The best way to deal with this issue is to use PHP Includes with your pages to repeat whatever you want across multiple pages.
