Thanks for the link, Inger! :D
After i get done with my grid-based site, I want to try one from "scratch". I've added this to my collection of resources.

Is that a site based on one of these 'blueprint' css grid systems or so? I've never used any of them, just curious as to how it is working with them.

So far, I'm really liking it. I'm using this: http://www.responsivegridsystem.com/
It has style sheets for columns and you can use those however you want – from 2 columns up to 12. You don't have to choose just one column set-up, for instance; you could have a section that's 3 columns across over another section that's 8 columns across.
There's also a master style sheet that has all the HTML5/CSS3 goodies that make the design responsive. After I get it done, I'll re-save with only the style sheets I'm actually using for upload.

What I especially liked about this particular template is that I could easily figure it out  I've never built a complete site outside of VSD before, but with the help of a few good books (Sitepoint's HTML & CSS for the Real World is one), I've been able to put together something that actually works. The column/section set up allows for a lot of design freedom. Someone with experience good whip a site out in no time using this ;)

(I'm using the CC Editor and would highly recommend it to anyone just learning to code a site ;) )

I am impressed and if you have the time I would dearly like to see how I could iron in my CMS with that. I am starting to get the impression that you are the go to person on coding. You seem to have my outlook not knowing a clue about it to start, but getting to use it to your advantage. I have gone back through many of your posts and I believe you have the ability to supply what I lack. You have a vision many only dream of.

You impress me Paintbrush and I can tell you quite truthfully there are not many who do. I would dearly love to work with you to develop both your techniques and mine. I bet you will be able to help in developing my A.I. Web object control. Contact me, I promise lots of late nights but the results will be mind blowing.
You are indeed one very talented individual. You are one tremendous asset to this forum.

I can agree to that! :) We have some very talented and good ambassadors in here, and those who impress me most are exactly Eric and Painbrush! :)

I'll check it out when I find time. I had heard so much contradictory stuff about the 'blueprint' grid system (some love it, some hate it, some find it too restrictive). That is probably why I have kept out of them, plus that I am able to do my own code. But generally I'm keen on trying something new, and you have made it tempting to have a go at it :)

:) Big hugs to all of you!

From what I've been reading, it seems that creating a responsive design would be pretty easy for those of you with strong CSS skills. Some JS is handy too.

Many of these sites seem to be planned to look good on a variety of devices without being overly picky about it. The layouts "break" at certain widths to accommodate small screens and pads then stop at a min. width (320px) for phone/portrait. So they may not be "pixel perfect" on every screen, but they do display just fine whether in portrait or landscape mode without having to plan for every single device out there.

I keep having to re-adjust my layouts because I'm basically giving myself a crash course in CSS as I do this.
Tweaking paddings and margins, experimenting with floats... then mixing in stuff like Google maps and Facebook boxes (that have their own way of doing things!).... It is fun to see how it works at different resolutions/sizes, but a bit frustrating too :o– one really has to lose the desire to control how everything is placed. It's more about letting the content flow in a logical order no matter what screen it's displayed on. So, those with more CSS know-how will have an easier time getting things into the best possible arrangement.

For myself, even if I had the coding experience, I'd still check out a few of these templates to get a feel for what's possible and if there are standard methods common to responsive designs.

***I'm going to blame Dreamweaver for sending me down the WYSIWYG path :P (though I'll always remain loyal to VSD). I started using the CCEditor to add a bit of code to VSD sites and it really opened my eyes to how much easier things can be when you have the right tools. So I was going to start my HTML/CSS learning with a simple CC template – figuring it would take some time to first learn how to use the Editor, but it made it so easy to get going – I dived right into the responsive site :D

Y'all need to get going with this so I'll have some brains to pick!!!
