Problem with Internet Explorer 6

My website ukprom.com works fine in internet explorer 8 and 7 but when someone looked at it using version 6 strange things happened - see the attached file.

The logo has been designed in Paint Shop Pro 7 and saved as a PNG file with a transparent background because my web page has a fading coloured background.

It works fine in all other browsers - safari, firefox, opera and IE7 and 8.

The line of text underneath the main banner has gone funny as well.

Any solutions !!!!????

It drives you mad, you think you have finally sorted out the problems and then.......:/

Thanks

Karen

Welcome to the nightmares of web-design :) Unfortunately, this kind of stuff is kinda common with IE (esp. 6)...

I don't have an immediate fix, but will look over your site and see if I can find some helps for you. There are others here who are absolute pro's at design and they may very will beat me to it, but either way you will likely find a solution here.

IE6 doesn't normally support transparent png images. You can search the web for transparent png fixes, which will (in some cases, at least) allow IE6 to display transparent pngs correctly.

Another issue with IE6 is margins. IE6 treats margins improperly and can widen or lengthen things on your website that will make everything go out of alignment.

The internet world would be a better place if everyone upgraded away from IE6.

I've used the fix on this page with success.

1.IE6 disorganises my pages.

2.Firefox squashes my DHTML main menu into a small bizarre mess in the lower left hand corner of the screen. Have downloaded a firefox add-on (to run under ie within firefox). This fixes the problem unless...see point 1. Is there anything I can do to overcome these issues.
I'm not willing to rearrange the general page layout to facilitate the browser workin.
Thanks,
Brian

Brian,

Start by replacing the DAT file for the DHTML builder. You can download a self-extracting ZIP file. The zip file has a replacement DAT file and a readme with instructions.

After you replace the DAT file there are some other things we can do to help your menu.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
