Greetings,

I have absolutely no experience in web site design and in this terrible economy, I simply don't have thousands of dollars to pay a professional to redo my web site. Soooo, I bought Coffee Cup Visual Site Designer in an effort to build a web site myself. This exercise has turned out not to be as easy as I had thought.

I purchased a flash enabled web site template package from an online vendor, I downloaded the template OK and then tried to import this template into Coffee Cup. However, since it is not already in the file format used by Coffee Cup, the VSD program won't recognize the file and allow me to open it.

Since VSD didn't allow me to do what I wanted, I then purchased Coffee Cup HTML Editor as well. That program will import the web pages, but not the Flash and the rest of the buttons, etc. from the template. I am likely doing something wrong, but darned if I can figure it out on my own.

Can anyone tell me how can I import a NON Coffee Cup template into Coffee Cup VSD and save it as a Visual Site Designer file format so that I can work on it? Alternatively, is there anyone out there that would do this for me for a reasonable fee?

Thanks very much,

Robby Richards

Hey Robby,

At this time the only software we have that can open an existing HTML template is the HTML Editor. However, the program cannot open any Flash files, only HTML files. Any Flash object would need to be re added to the page within the software.

Unfortunately, Visual Site Designer cannot open existing HTML pages. There is no way to convert an existing HTML file to VNU to import into the Visual Site Designer. You would need to re build your website within Visual Site Designer.

Is the site completely Flash based placed within an html page, or is it an html template that incorporates Flash objects into it. You have to offer more details and perhaps a link to what you're using to get FREE help here on the forum.

If it's html with some Flash sections, you can rebuild it in VSD. Did the template come with Photoshop files? If you have all the graphic elements (backgrounds, icons...) You can use those to re-create your page in VSD, then duplicate this page as needed. Use the Flash tool in VSD to add the Flash elements.
There are plenty of people around here to help you with VSD :)

Yes - that would make it easier for someone to see exactly what would be involved ;)

If the template that you downloaded has flash flv files then you will need the actual flash software to open them. This is the only way to open and edit a flash flv file.
The only other way to open a flv file is to convert it to swf and use software like swishmax3 to open and edit the swf and edit the swf.
In sum, if the files are flv then your only option is to embed them in the html as flash, as they are.

Usually template files are supplied as swf files. You can include an flv file in a swf movie.
