Hello All,

I would like for clients to be able to select multiple audio files on my website to download. These files would be used to create a custom cd, ideally in the order they select them. I imagine the files would have be zipped after being selected? How can I do this? What software would I use? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I guess I need a little more clarification on what it is you're trying to do, is it having others download files, or having them choose them so you can create a cd for them? If it's having others download then a basic link for downloading is all you need. If you'd like to set something up where they can choose selections from multiple items you might try the Form Builder to create a multiple drop down list setup. The idea would basically be a separate drop down list with all of the choices on it (providing of course that this isn't a ton of them) and have them choose them in order, meaning the first dropdown chooses the first selection they want, and the next dropdown chooses the 2nd selection and so on to fill up a CD worth of files. This would then be sent to your email to tell you what they want so you can create a CD for them.

If I'm not understanding correctly what it is you want, then please do clarify a little more on what exactly you are needing

Hi Thanks for the information! I would like for them to be able to create the cd themselves from files they select. A checkbox form the way you mentioned would be great, if that allowed for them download those specific audio files . I'd rather them not have to download each file one at a time.

In reality an online cd maker or playlist creation solution is what I need. I have the audio files that they would need to create the cd, however they pick which tracks they want and in which order.

In order to burn a CD from audio files, one would have to download them to their computer. The user would also have to have CD burning software installed on their system in order to create the audio CD.

You could list the files in a directory on your site for them to download. But they would have to download them one by one unless you offer .zip files instead of .mp3 files.

The other way is to upload the music files to a directory, then create a page for the downloads. It could say something like:

Sound Effects 1 - Download .mp3
Sound Effects 2 - Download .mp3
Sound Effects Set 1 - Download .zip


Download being a link that would be to the .mp3 or .zip so when the user clicks download, the file downloads. Then they would be responsible for creating the CD on their computer.

Yep much clearer and it's basically how Monica said, you can setup the files to be any way you like, but in the end your clients are always responsible for doing their own burning.

As for a Play list that could be done using some external playlist applications, but once again it's something that you need to either provide to them (I believe some of the social networking sites have some playlist things, and Real Player, and a few others have some external applications that people can use for them), or they need to know where to get it or already have it. There are a lot of playlist type sites out there so I would say just Google the word playlist and you should find many too check out for that part.

Either way though, you are able to provide the downloads etc. but I don't know of any applications that will do any type of online burning of cd's, but playlists is a possibility.

Yes, I see how to do one file at a time, but I'm looking for multiple files they have selected downloaded at once. ex: select track1, track 20, track 7, track 40, user pushes a button the files either all zip together, then download together or the files all create a playlist or iso then download. Once the client has the files they can burn them on their computer. Is that possible?

Not with anything here at CC, and not even sure if there is anything out there that can do all that at all. There might be form setups that will allow you to setup a download system that they can download multiple items, not sure on that, but I don't know of anything at all that will zip them for them or put them in any other format. Format wise that's something you can setup with separate files by just posting links to different file formats and just supply the files that way, but putting them together? I don't know of anything that automated that you can do online.

Your best bet would be to take orders for the items and then do the work and send them links to the finished products. I don't see any better way to do what you're thinking. Doesn't mean there isn't one, just that I've never heard of one that will do all that you're asking.
