That is fine. All the browsers support 4.0. As long as you do use one and not let the page render in quirks mode.

I use xhtml transitional, myself. Transitional, not strict, because I don't HAVE to separate all style from content. If I want to throw in a quick inline style, I can and the page still validates.

Here is my take on validation. I believe it's a tool to assist you in rendering the page correctly across all platforms. I try to make sure my page all validate but sometimes, like with the embed tag, it won't validate. And that's OK because it doesn't affect how the page renders. So I'm not a stickler that every page has to validate - just because.

Ok thankyou,

All the comments here about capital A's and the missing /LI
are all down to the changes CoffeeCup html editor makes, I am not
doing any of that.

I used to put lower case 'a' etc but the html editor used to change it all.

As it does by dropping the </li> off the end....

I have turned off code completion and will see how
it behaves...

Peter, just out of curiosity, I'm sure you are, but... are you using the most recent build of the HTML Editor? These quirks have never happened to me is why I ask.

Hello Jo Ann,

Yes I am up to date...

The HTML Editor 2010 SE Build 369.

You have all helped a lot, and i think the 'code completion' setting
could have been the reason... It was set be 'ON'

I have a lot to learn, but my questions here have enlightened me due to all your answers.

Doc type selection for a start. I have used the correct one for my pages so thats ok.

so weird though, I've always had code completion on and have never had it remove code, even if it duplicated itself, very strange behavior. Am wondering if maybe you might need to consider reinstalling or even possibly just cleaning up the pc with something like CCleaner which you can find at http://www.piriform.com I would try that first and see if that helps at all, could just be you got a problem with some cached stuff interfering with your program or maybe a bad install?

Hi Jo Ann

Yes, I have done all that, already... And the state of my pc is good, well
maintained.

It may be that the code completion wasnt at fault, and would I be interested to hear what
the CoffeeCup people say.

What setting would do that?

I will see how it goes...

Peter:)

Well if you put in a support ticket I for one would love to hear what you guys come up with as the culprit causing that, just out of curiosity if anything. Good luck on it either way :)

Peter, I deleted the rest of your link above here.

Firstly, nobody in the forum will be able to enter YOUR support room, except yourself.
Secondly, if we do have people among us who like some hacking challenge, we don't want to offer up an opportunity for them. ;)
Ha en riktig god dag!
