Ok all you newbies...on many occasions you might catch some of us (more informed users) encouraging you to check out your web pages with different browsers so that you can be sure that all your hard work renders nicely in several of the better known ones. We usually suggest Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Safari and Chrome, all of which can be installed on your computer making it a simple operation to just bring up your pages in each and see where the differences (if any) lie. Usually the most we can hope for is a similar look and feel in each browser, although in fairness the bigger ones are coming more into line with another making the differences less noticeable and irritating.

But here is a blatant exception for you...a web site of my own which I am developing as cms (content management system)...
Check it out in all but Internet Explorer and you will see a very similar page...then go look in Internet Explorer and the whole thing falls apart! :(

I am desperately hoping to resolve the problem before too long, but am pretty certain you will be able to see this horrendous example of what IE can do to a page for quite some time to come. I have come up against these headaches before with cms skins and know that there are a few nightmares and migraines lined up for me before it gets sorted...
:/

ps. Any useful suggestions welcome. I am working on .ascx files for the main part though the main problem seems to lie with rendering the images in IE

Janys, are you designing just the cover page, or are you also responsible for the Aruba pages?

Anyway, I have viewed both with Fx5 and IE9 but could not find anything that is 'falling apart'. Maybe I haven't looked in the right places?

That may be why right there... IE9 is actually 'supposed' to be the most conforming browser MS has released to date ;)... May be that it is rendering properly, may need to take a peek with an older version (I'll have a look when I wake back up).

Since I posted the original in here, I have already gone back to one of the Aruba default pages, so you might have seen that.
The one I am doing is actually in black, blue and grey...very sort of grungy.
I am designing the skin and containers to my own specifications and they are always a real b..... to do, particularly since every single attempt has to be zipped up and uploaded to the server before I can see how it looks. To get things right, I usually need about 100 or more uploads as I do not have a server on my local pc...and no longer have the asp program to speed things up. Very long winded I know, but some of us are absolute gluttons for punishment.
I also have the problem of still being with XP so cannot see how things look in IE9 as I can't install that update on xp...not that I expect them to be much better though.
I appreciate your looking folks and hope to get the pages up again soon so you can see if the mess has improved!

Inger...the falling apart really refers to how the images behave in the template...the content will all drop in place with no problems once there is a template to contain it all. If it happens again I will add in a screenshot to demonstrate the point...

Janys,
Not sure if this really is the page with the problems, but since you don't have access to IE9, I attach a screenshot...

Per...
wow...that almost looks about right! :)
With IE8 there are clipped images missing from all the corners so the shadow effect is totally lost. The horizontal menu had a similar problem with images too so I might just have to end up adding a warning to people about which browser is best for viewing. Very frustrating at not being able to check this myself so I appreciate your having taken the time to look at this and do me the screenshot.

Now back to the grind to get the menus working as there seem to be a lot of crossed wires for those also!

Let me know when you need more IE9 screenshots as the work progresses! :)

Janys, the IE versions before 9 are not able to handle rounded corners without a workaround including small images of the rounded corners positioned so as to make it look right. They are often referrred to as 'image sprites'. Fe Pixie used to create rounded corners that way.

Yea...which is why there are scripts in there to deal with ie6 and ie7 and ie8, but the server ignores them in the zip upload. They are just not getting read ...!!!!
