I'm very new at this, which of your software products should I start with? And how simple are the instructions (can/should/must I save the web page to my computer before I upload it?)
I have a domain and I have a hosting site (upgrading right now to iis7.)
I have never created a web-site.
I am HTML illiterate but am willing to learn (in my spare time - I work full time.)
I have a blog on Yahoo but I wanted my own website and want to use WordPress for my blog.

DragonsLady,

Welcome the these forums.

I moved your question out of the FAQ forum since your questions are not FAQs. :)

CoffeeCup has two design programs. Visual Site Designer (VSD) is a WYSIWYG program, and many people use it to build multiple websites. The HTML Editor is two programs in one. It has a CODE section where you enter the HTML code to produce a website, and it has a visual section that is WYSIWYG, but it does not have all the features of VSD.

Knowing HTML code will allow you to have more control over your website. So if you plan to learn HTML, I would suggest you use the HTML Editor. If you purchase both programs, you can start with the VSD program and later graduate to using the HTML Editor.

Other programs you may want/need will depend on what you want to do with your site. CoffeeCup has many programs for many different web features.

The programs are relatively easy to use, there are many tutorials here on the CoffeeCup site, and these forums are an excellent place to get help and learn how to build websites. AND before I forget, yes you need to save the files to your computer, and most of the programs will remind you to save before you close the program.

Since you want to use WordPress, I would suggest the HTML Editor. The Visual Site Designer is nice for beginners if you are creating all your code, but no so great if you want to work with existing code such as that used by WP.

Horses for courses.

Do you want a blogging type website? If so HTML coding is only going to help you so far. Applications like Word Press as scripted PHP applications and require a detailed knowledge of PHP, MYSQL, CSS and HTML to create your own version. Try Word Press and look to use the admin features to customise it, you will be supprised how far you can take it without any HTML knwoledge.

If you are just interested in static websites, then coffeecup is good (wouldn't be here otherwise), also if you start getting into professional website Dreamweaver is very good, But if you don't want to spend any cash, there is Sea Monkey (from the people who brought you firefox) and Amaya (from W3C)

Good luck
