Great thread. Learned a lot.

So single key words are separated by commas, but what about a phrase? For example, say someone searches for ‘sailing school’. How should that be entered?

sailing school, or
sailing-school, or
“sailing school”,

Would be grateful for advice. Many thanks.

Giving the people what they want is fundamentally and disastrously wrong. The people don’t know what they want. They want to be entertained, that’s all. Don’t give the people what they want – give ‘em something better!

I second Skip on both counts: (have no answers, so this is just for emphasis!)
Great thread! (thanks Jo Anne, Chad and others!)
Have also wondered about how to handle phrases or word combinations

I don't know if you have a business page on Facebook (don't groan) but we've set up bus. pages in both Greek and Englsih and have quite a good reaction. But I'm not selling you on FB.

What has worked really well for us is Facebook Notes. We've published about 10-13 on our different wines, winery etc and it's amazing how quickly we have a no.1 - 7 spot under sponsor links. No adwords or facebook adverts. In a really short time.

Facebook doesn't leave any room for tags, but if you keyword well in the title and description it really helps.

If I was you I'd write a few notes on different styles of your jewellery, what to wear with etc etc. Put loads of photos, and make sure your captions are key word rich, even for the sake of repeating yourself.

Publish every couple of days a note.. The option you have on your site for people to join up and answer surveys or quizze- give them this same option, think of something cheap that they could receive as a bonus.

We were really amazed at how quickly we were showing up for those notes. If you link it to a blog aswell, you'll start to establish yourself as an expert in your field.

Anyway, that's my two pennies worth (actually that's the dormant name of my blog.com, but it's on hold at the moment - once this shop is up and going aI can get started with it again.)

Whilst I've got you here: you use paypal checkout- how do get notification of a sale?
You have to rely on going to your papyal account. I thought we would get an email after a sale is made. Would appreciate your input once again.

And before I go, not letting you off easily, or anyone listening:

How the (h..bleep) do we add an avatar by our domain name, either in page tab of browser or even better, like the coffecup, com next to URL in browser bar?

Hiya Martine,

Thanks for the info on FB, I'll look into that, as I have so much going on right now I'm getting lost in the shuffle LOL. Sounds like a good idea though, we'll see how much ambition I have to keep a blog or update FB page on a regular basis, but sounds like a good possibility, probably Myspace too I suppose.

As for the PayPal question, when you get an order Paypal sends you a notification that you received a payment along with an invoice type setup that tells you what they ordered.

SUGGESTION: Until SCC adds the SKU or Item Number box be sure to put a identifying name or number into the Main Title of your items or you won't have a clue which one they ordered if you have a lot of repetitive type items like I do lol. I have hundreds of glass pendants waiting to be put on my site (I have photos to take yet but company here at the moment so no place to do it till they leave lol), and many of them are so similar that it is possible I may call some by the same description without realizing it. If you do this, you run the risk of not being 100% sure which one of an item someone ordered so I bypassed that problem by assigning numbers and putting them in the item's title.

The reason for this Suggestion is that the Item Title is the only part of the item's description that PayPal sends you. This way you can be 100% sure that you know which item someone ordered. Once the SCC has the SKU ability we'll be set to go for that too and I'll be able to use a little more name in my Title instead of numbers since the lines have such limited character space as it is.

PayPal will give you everything you need for your order. All your customer's info is there for you and it's pretty slick so far on that part.

Favicons
You can find out how to do the favicons if you scroll down the page on this thread in the Shopping Cart tips & tricks area:
https://www.coffeecup.com/forums/shoppi … ks/?page=3

The favicon is what shows up both in the address bar next to the URL and also on the browser tab. :)

I signed up for the Godaddy Visibility thing, but it's just as confusing as everything else I've been trying to use so I feel like I've wasted my money now cuz I've no clue how to use it. I just need a program to do it all for me!!! LOLOLOL, sad huh? lol

I found the software very easy to use. What seems to be causing the confusion? Perhaps I could help you...

but not much I can do about the shop image names (which comprises most of the images on my site) as those are done by the shopping cart and it changes all my image names to whatever it feels like.

Scott told me he fixed this issue in VSD, now they should do the same in SCC hint hint lol!

The tool gave me tons and tons of keywords that I could put in so I went through them and put all/any of them in that made sense for my site and I now have a lot of keywords in the adwords setup, does that matter? Does it matter what order they are in for that at all? Or is that just a good way to see if any of them are working or not and you can eventually just weed out the unused or very infrequently used ones etc.?

Um, well I wasn't suggesting you use the adwords keyword tool to optimize your adwords keywords, I was suggesting that you use it to optimize your SITE. But you can do that too lol! So you're asking now a question about adwords... does it matter how many keywords you have in adwords... well yes it does. You don't just want to use any and all keywords that fit your site, you want to optimize to find the keywords that will get you the most hits for your money. Some keywords are cheaper than others lol.

Or is that just a good way to see if any of them are working or not and you can eventually just weed out the unused or very infrequently used ones etc.?
Yes, you're getting the hang of it lol!

sailing school, or

“sailing school”,

Are you talking about phrases within the text of your web site? Google can figure those out. I am only talking about using dashes when creating filenames (this includes page names, since that is technically a file also).

Note: If you are using VSD it does not "technically" allow dashes in URLS but if you save the page, close the software, and then re-open it actually WILL let you LOL!

I suggest you do further reading on your own, this is only one article out of many on Google webmaster blog, its a great resource study it to become an SEO expert lol!
