Does anyone know how I can make a picture I am adding to a site more transparent so it is faded in the background and just visible?

Hiya Wayne,

You would need to use an image editor with some nice effects and/or filters of sorts to do something like this. I am about to try the same thing myself for my son's site for his background picture. It's been a while but I've done it before so I "should" be able to do it again lol. It's not something a website program can do for you though, it's definitely something you have to do with an image editor.

CSS 3 will have this ability, but until then you have to manipulate it with image editors.

yep "and" you know that not all browsers will accommodate CSS 3 right away so you're still going to have to have alternatives for the other browsers until they adopt the new systems .... as always lol

Which is why I refuse to support IE6 any longer. I use a lot of transparent .png graphics in my designs, and IE6 doesn't recognize the trans alpha channel. Those poor souls surfing the web on company time with ancient browsers their IT sticks them with are just SOL.

This of course assumes you don't have to design for any companies. Otherwise you will need to design for IE6. Unfortunately, I have two company contracts and so have to still consider ie6.

Ouch! No, my target niche is small family business and non-profits. Keeps the fees I can charge lower, perhaps, but it's very satisfying to see them enjoy my work.
