William

Do you mean that if you have all the instructions on one page at a certain link they just get sent tot the section of the page where the procedure is.

Kind of like you see in faq where if they click on question 10 then e.g. are taken to the bottom of the page where the answer to question 10 is?

If so I may have a script for you that you can use. Just want to be sure I do redirect you to the wrong link or post the wrong script.

Yes ad, kind of like the faq scenario.

Say you want to bake an apple pie.
You get your cook book and open to the table of contents. (the websites front page)
You find the "Deserts" section and go (click on) to that section of the book. (Deserts page of the site)
On that page of the book you see a picture of a kitchen with all the things you will need to make that apple pie. But all you want to know is what to set the oven temperature at so you click on the stoves oven temerature dial which brings you to the page with the whole apple baking procedure on it, (bake the pie page) but automatically scrolls down so that at the top of the page it will read "Set oven temp. to 350 degrees".
That way you won't have to read through all the measures, quantities, pan types, peeling/coring methods, etc. just to get to what to set the oven at. Of course if you want to you have the option from there to scroll up or down all you want if you WANT to read the whole procedure.

You can do links to specific parts of a page in VSD, it's only a little bit tricky. You have to link the anchor to something fixed on the page, like a bit of text or an image. You have to use the HTML object both to invoke the text or image, and to put in the anchor. I can provide examples if desired.

You can use a picture as a hyperlink to take you to the 'bake this pie page' but then to have it automatically scroll down the temperature is a bit more complex. Possible someone else can help you with this.

I am now also presuming you have other sections of the picture you are doing to want people to click on? to lead them to other pages? or not? This is going to be a problem if you make the picture a hyperlink as you cannot have one picture and use it as two hyperlinks as far as I know.

The only way I can think of this being done is in Flash itself where you can designate certain section of the image to function as buttons i.e. hyperlinks.
I don't think you can do it with this software.

Btw, please anyone who knows another solution correct me.

Yes, you can click on anything you want in the "kitchen" picture and most will lead you to the same "bake the pie" page, but depending on what you click on will determine WHERE on the page it will bring you. The kitchen cabinet, where the pans are stored, will bring you to somewhere near the top of "bake the pie" page to the paragraph entitled "Utilsels" or the like. Clicking on the broom in the corner, probably near the bottom of "bake the pie" page under the paragraph entitled "clean up".

Examples, procedures, yes, I would very much like them thank you! I only have 16 days left on my trial version and I would like to get most of this down before getting my very own "real" version in a few weeks.

Keep in mind that I'm no computer wizzard, just a mechanic. If you could write so I'll understand. I'm not up on all the computer lingo.

Anchor? I thought only boats and t.v. stations had Anchors.
See what I mean?

You can specify certain portions of an image to be links to different places, as well, you don't need Flash for that. I've done it manually before, but also CC sells a program that eases the task for you.

I looked at the link to image mapper but the terminology was way over my head at this stage in my abilities.

Image mapper will achieve what I described above? Take you to a specific section of a different page?

What you do, in a nutshell, is start with an image. Then you define parts of that image to be links so when you click on that part of it you go to wherever the link points. In your case you say it could be a picture of the kitchen and each cupboard door could take you to a different location, the oven somewhere else, and so on.

The clicks taking you to a specific page is easy, taking you to a specific portion of that page (at least in VSD) just a little less so. If you mark the spot on the page you want to jump to with a small image, or put some text there, it''ll work fine but you will have to do a little basic HTML coding. Someone here can talk you through the specific code you'd need when the time comes.

I haven't used the CC Image Mapper program, though I own a copy of it and could spend some time learning it if needed. I expect that it will make mapping the image a little easier than doing it manually like I've done in the past. You will almost certainly have a bit of a learning curve to climb in any case, and will come out of the experience knowing a little more about web coding than you did when you started.

Spinny, thanks for correcting me. I was not aware that CC image mapper could do that. Very handy.. thanks :)

No prob. It's actually something I learned how to do just using HTML a few years ago when I did a web site for someone (a freebie, of course). The CC app just spares you having to count pixels and map out the clickable areas by hand.
