I'm so confused with all of this. Once I published my site I showed up pretty good in the search results. Now I'm having a hard time finding my site at all unless I search our name.

Would someone mind searching to see if you find it? Also, I would love any advice you guys could give me for keywords based on what my site is.

Thanks!

Google the service you offer and look at the source code for the the sites that are on the first page. The key words and description they use will provide you good information. Just don't copy their work, make it your own by describing your service.

Also, don't place so much emphasis on the key words and description tag. Ensure each page is unique in that the description, key words, page title, h1 tag, and page content are consistent. This will weigh heavily in your favor with the search engines.

I don't know much about SEO, so I don't know if this would make a big difference - but maybe you could replace the text image on your home page with actual text and make sure you mention services you provide in that text as well as keywords and phrases.

I've done that with the description, keywords, page title but what is the h1 tag?

Also, I have been googling the service we offer and it seems we've disappeared of the search results. WTH? This happened to me 6 months ago and I changed my whole site (got rid of old software that had bad formatting and got coffee cup), resubmitted, it showed up and now it's gone again.

Making changes to your site to make it more accessible to people with disabilities will also raise your ranking. (this gets missed a lot but google loves it)

Kristi,

You may have found out about the h1 tag, but if not: It's a heading tag which is meant to be used for the page heading, the most importent headline. All other headings should be marked up with i.e. h2, h3 etc.

What have you used to get that assessments shown in the post above this one?
