I'm at my wits end - Post ID 78735

I am new to designing a web site, and actually created mine in Google Page Creator last summer. I realize that Page Creator is no longer supported, but I haven't made the transition yet.

My problem is this: Every time I import my logo, it maintains the white background, even though I removed it using Photoshop. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong when I import it, or if I have saved my image incorrectly. I am new to Photoshop as well, although I did used the "magic tool" and masking to removed the white background.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Although many image editors will allow you to save an image with a transparent background, not all image formats are supported on the web. Try saving it as a .gif and as a .png and try using both of those in a web page to see if either one works for you.
Also, you did not tell us what program you are using to "import" your logo. Coffeecup HTML editor, Visual site Designer, Firestarter flash, form builder or other?
It might help if we knew what program you are using please? And of course, the type of image format and if you tried .gif or .png images with transparent backgrounds.
One other solution is to color that white area of your logo the same colour as the page. Image editors sometimes have a colour matching tool that can be used. If you logo background colour matched your page color, then it should look as if it were transparent.

One thing that caught me was I was trying to drop a .gif with transparency over the top of a background image using VSD. It doesn't support transparency where the two images intersect. I went nuts doing the image over and over again in my image editing software thinking I had done the transparency incorrectly before I learned the truth. Could that be an issue here?

Hi Spinny,
does the background image have to be a .gif? because works well with .jpg..

The one with transparency has to be either a .gif, targa or .png, and of those VSD only supports .gif (for now). The format of the background image doesn't matter, if the image with transparency intersects anything on the page at all the intersected part loses its transparency because VSD blends them into a single image. I got that verified by Scott S. the other day when I came here to ask whether 6.0 would be any different.

I'll have to double-check but I think the site I was trying to layer images on had a .jpg for the background and the transparent part of the .gif on top was coming up white.

Here's the thread I started asking about this:

Thanks for the replies. i'm really trying not to sound stupid here, so bear with me if I do.

Let me try to answer the questions you asked me. In order to place the images on my site (including my logo), I merely go into PageCreator and choose "upload" to put the image in. Maybe this is the issue. Maybe I am limited in this program. I've tried uploading it as a gif, jpg and png. The gif uploads with a black background instead of it being white. Not sure why that happened either. It's supposed to be transparent.

When I open the logo in Photoshop, it tells me that it is transparent. I'm going to attach a couple of my files and maybe this will help?

Thank you again,

Tracy
