Favicon.gif not working with IE -...

I created a favicon.gif, uploaded it to my server root, and added the requisite lines to my page headers. Works great in FireFox3, but not so much in IE. I uploaded a favicon.ico version, tried again. Still no go. I even changed the header lines to the .ico version, and yet again IE ignored it.

It's back to the .gif version, but I'm curious what might be the reason IE isn't co-operating? Link is

This guy suggest using

type="image/ico"

in the meta tag for gif images.

Bummer. I just changed the index.html page's header to reflect that change but IE still rejected it. I did read in that article I might need to make sacrifices to various gods for IE to recognize it; maybe that's what I'm overlooking. :P

Huh. Not for me, nor does the icon show up when I bookmark it. I wonder what's different about my IE7?

Works fine for me I can see your icon.

I have had the same problem i.e others could see it but not me. I cleaned out all my cookies and intenet temp files and it worked.

Give it a try it might work for you.

As though to add insult to injury, even my Blackberry's browser sees the favicon. :p
