Editing site in Dreamweaver - Post ID...
I created my site with Coffeecup VSD. I tried to edit it in Dreamweaver, but the screen is blank. How do I edit using Dreamweaver instead of the HTML Editor? That doesn't seem to work either. I know HTML and PHP, but the editor doesn't seem to want to cooperate. I tried to remove some lines of text only to find they are actually .jpg. I want to add more text using <div>add text here</div> to no avail. Is it not possible to transfer my created site to Dreamweaver for updates?
Also, each time I try to open VSD it says there is a problem and will not open. The only way I can use the product is to reinstall. Very time consuming. Any suggestions.
This can happen even if you are running as an Administrator, and it is caused by Windows very strict security settings.
To fix this, right-click your Visual Site Designer shortcut icon and select Run as Administrator. This should properly launch Visual Site Designer for you. If it does, great! You can continue to launch the program in this way, or you can go a step further and configure the shortcut to always run as administrator. Here's how:
1. Right-click the shortcut icon, and click Properties.
2. Click the Compatibility tab.
3. Here, put a check mark by Run This Program as an Administrator.
4. Next, put a check mark next to Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For: and ensure Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 is selected.
5. Click OK.
If you continue having problems you may also need to set the application as an exception to Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature. Normally if this is the culprit, you'll get a little bubble along the taskbar notifying you, which will allow you to set the offender as an exception.
One last option that could be the cause of this, and related to the DEP feature, is User Account Controls. This is the large window that appears in Vista asking you to "Allow" or "Deny" access to functions within programs. You can turn this off within your Control Panel > User Accounts window, along the left-hand pane.
All three options let you control your system exactly how you want and give you full access to do/run anything on the computer.

Hiya Helena,
You can use any text editor or HTML editor of your choosing to change and update your files ...
BUT!!!
DO understand that these changes will not be reflected in the VSD files so you will not be able to go back to VSD to alter your pages again. Should you do that you will end up overwriting all your changes and you'll have to redo them manually any time you do that.
Hope that makes sense, but that's always a good thing to do really. Many people use VSD to get the main site setup done and then tweak it using the HTML Editor or their editor of choice from there on.
Hope that helps

How are you trying to open the site in DW?
VSD creates a folder which is holding the actual site. Then there is a .vnu file which can only be opened in VSD. You have to duck into that folder and find the html pages.
Just be aware that if you intend to make any changes to the site in VSD later, all changes made outside VSD will be overwritten. So if you start working on your site in DW, you have to continue using that.

VSD is designed for those who want a WYSIWYG editor – no coding needed. If you want to edit the code rather than make the changes within VSD, it would be better to build the site in either the HTML Editor or Dreamweaver.
Many of us here have done what Jo Ann mentioned; used VSD to build the site, then used the Editor to add some customization (jquery/javascript, scrolling divs, calendars, css menus...). But these things need to be added within VSD with the HTML tool rather than going into the code if you want VSD to keep these changes/additions.
