Do redirects slow a page down?

I'm a bit of a newbie to website design. Someone told me that:
I noticed that your site redirects from www to the root domain.

My site is http://ColoradoProcessServers.net

Does that slow my site loading down? If so, what should I change?

No it should not slow your site down. It does not matter if they type www or just the site name.

I will say, if you have it setup as a 301 or 302 redirect it will slow down your site by just a HAIR... Nothing I would be too worried about... You can check this in your C-Panel.

Thanks!

I've been playing with page speed tonight and the last Gtmetrix test I ran, the page loads in .77 second!

Yeee hahhh!

Not my area of expertise, but those speed test, page loading specifications are affected by conditions at the time you use them

I have experimented a little using one of my VSD websites which i uploaded to a server i know is in UK (where I am) another which is unknown, one for certain is in USA and SDRIVE (who knows where that is :) )

Having cleared cache etc from 1 pc i tried each one in turn a few days later ( morning, evening, night) and the resulting upload speed at each server varied quite dramatically both from time of day, and from server to server.

At present the wedding car site in my signature on SDRIVE is in general loading fairly consistently slightly faster than it used to when hosted on JH.com but there have been days when i have tried it and the home page has taken 10 seconds to load, normally a fraction of that

Also i tend to do Ctrl F5 numerous times to see if i get a variation over a few minutes, and i often see quite a considerable difference within a few minutes

Good to test regularly yourself i trust this more than any statistic sites.
Started using CC VSD in January 2009, I don't do HTML code, Sales from CC site exceeding expectations taken me out of semi-retirement

Melissa, I notided that you have a lot of absolute links on your site, e.g. to images and also to the various pages of the same site. In a way those are also redirects, as the server has to go out of your site, look up your site on the web once more, then find the right folder and the file. It should be enough to set a relative path to resources on the same site, like instead of
http://coloradoprocessservers.net/images/flag.jpg

try this:
images/flag.jpg

Or isn't that possible in WP?

Of course, when linking to a resource that is located on a different server/a different site you need to use the full URL.

It is better if you just take the image and store it in your sites Image folder so that you can just link to it yourself. You never know if the person you are hotlinking from will change the name, remove the pic, or shut down. Then you are left with a blank pic in your website. :D

As another user found out about a week or so ago. NEVER trust that a graphic/photo will stay put if YOU don't have complete control over it ;)

I'm using CloudFlare now Inger, so I'm not sure how much that matters.
