We have a web site that was built using DreamWeaver
Would HTML editor or even Visual Site Designer be compatible with DreamWeaver, allowing us to upgrade, modify and or maintain the existing site without having to re do it entirely?

The HTML Editor will work...
EDIT: ...at least if you aren't using unicode. If you are, then some special unicode characters may get messed up.
