I most likely will need to go back and adjust my new web page but would like to see what most are setting your page up as far as screen resolution is concerned. I have my monitor set at 1440x900 and not thinking that is the size I used when I did my page. I realize back 3 or 4 years ago the most commonly used was 1024x768, but today with the wide screen monitors and high res graphics card is that still true?

These days – think small. There are more and more people browsing on pads and phones. I also have a netbook, and anything over 1000px causes a horizontal scroll. Even with larger screens, some people like them so they can have more than one thing going at a time.
For a fixed-width site, I'd keep it under 1000px. If you're creating a fluid or flexible site, you can have it scale to fit (but be aware of how your text and graphics are displayed going from an extra-wide site to a size suitable for mobile devices.

Thanks I have not done any web design for sometime now and I just was not thinking about the screen resolution issue. I have my monitor set at 1440x900 and of course that was how the page was designed. I have look at it since your reply on my net book and my smart phone and the only issue is my top nav. bar. the last two buttons wrap under the bar and that was on the net book at 1024x768.
