Change displayed URL from ftp path -...

Hi guys

Loving the CC software so much! Can you not make it easier though? I mean it took nearly 4 seconds for me to get the direct ftp program connected and transferring! Anyway...

The website that I've built (first off in VSD, but then re-hashed it with the HTTP editor and CSS creator) is: www.taylorianproductions.com

If you are kind enough to go there and help out a very very n00bie person like me, you'll see the address shows as the ftp path rather than a url (e.g. http://taylorian.felikz.net/taylorian/pages/home.html rather than http://www.taylorianproductions.com/home.html).

I've googled around and searched around here, but to no avail - is there some html I need to put in (or pref something in the css) that will display the web address of the page rather than the host's path?

This is my penultimate resort before asking the hosting dudes if it should be something I tweak at their end!

Thanks in advance all!-

JB

JB,

Questions:

Do you have two domains? taylorianproductions.com and taylorian.felikz.net

Are the two domains part of the same hosting package?

Did you use the hosting provider control panel to set the location of each domain?

I originally purchased two domains. One ending with .com and the other ending with .net. Either domain ended up at the same place. To separate the two domains I had to setup two folders and set one folder for each domain. Later when I hosted a site for a while, I created a third folder and directed the third domain to the third folder. This is the method that my hosting provider uses. I do not know how your hosting provider will do this, but if you tell us your hosting provider, someone familiar with that host may have the solution.

Ah right, I see. Felikz.net are the hosts- the domain is taylorianproductions.com

I don't have cp access with the Felikz hosts, they are simply hosting my pagefiles (transferred through ftp). They are very local to me, so not sure anyone else will know them though!

The domain is registered through namesecure.com. They have an option called "url gripper" which, when turned on displays "www.taylorianproductions.com" (no page info, just quite literally that quote) whichever page I am on- even if I navigate away from the site in the same browser session, but when turned up shows the public_html stuff per my first post.

Thanks so much for looking, Bill

JB,

Do you have a way to add folders using your hosts website? Can you add FTP access to your site using their website? Can you setup a database using their website?

If the answers are yes, then there should be something you can use to setup the domain for taylorianproductions.com.

If the answer is no, you may have to contact them to setup the domain.

Cool - thanks for that.

I upload using ftp (started via dos but have moved to DirectFTP now), so there's no access via their website. I'll fire a mail the support guy's way and see what they suggest.

Thanks again for looking!

Hi there.

Just a quick update on the fix - I had to change the CNAME setting with the domain registrar dudes, and then drop a .php file in the root folder at my hosts to sort.

No begins the joys of seeing what I can do with .php after the steep learning curve of all this. I have got the bug though!

Thanks once again for looking.

JB,

Once you start using PHP, you will see how it can save you a lot of grief and effort. I have just scratched the surface of what PHP can do and I already have seen lots of time savings. And I don't have to check every page to find the typos. :D
