Anyone with an Asus Eee w/Linux out...

Recently I created a site, http://eikweb.com/toscana (text is in Norwegian, never mind that...) and when viewing the index page using said computer (FF), I'm not getting the heading of the page. The heading is on a layer on top of the flash with the birds. I made sure the page was validating according to W3C, so what else can I do to make it display properly on the EeePC?

Inger, I took a look at your site on my Dell Mini (Linux-Ubuntu), latest Firefox version. The flash object covers the headings. It has a white background rather than the transparent background i see when viewed on my Windows pc (latest Firefox version). When I clicked the link to your site I saw the headings "flash" for a split second before the Flash covered them up. Everything is there - but underneath the Flash. (maybe something to do with z indexes ?)
I don't know enough about html/css to offer any advice (VSD user here), just wanted to let you know how it was "misbehaving" on another Linux computer. I do have the Web-Dev toolbar on there, so if there's anything you would want to look at, I can check it out and report back to you (screenshots if needed) so you can compare it with what you've got there.
Hopefully someone else with some Linux knowledge will come along with a really simple answer to this, but I don't mind sending on any info I can if you don't get a quick fix and need to explore some more options.:)

Not sure if you fixed this already or if you mean this is only an issue on an Linux machine, but thought I'd through my 2 cents in and say it looks great on Windows XP SP3, FF 3.6.3. Love the birds flying :)

I'm trying to figure out why a particular model of PC like an Asus would have any bearing on page rendering. I can see OS and browser mix and match but not PC model.

I'm with you, Tom. I'd think that the linux variant and the browser/version are the two important variables in this equation.

The questions that come to my mind:
Is rendering for a given browser version identical when running on different unix variants?
Are the latest linux version and the latest Windows version of a given browser functionally identical?
Could this be a side-effect of the odd aspect ratio/screen resolution of netbooks, in general?

I believe any variation of operating system together with any variation of browser could render the page differently. The variations are many. But I also believethat if the code validates, it probably won't be such an issue. :)

Thanks for your input. I don't think it's the PC model that makes it not work, I only mentioned it for the sake of the special Linux distro that it came with (Chandros, I think.) But from what Paintbrush says, it could be something with Linux and that particular version of FF (2.0). Unfortunately I haven't found out how to upgrade FF yet.

???

This is the second time someone has declared himself in these forums. I wonder if it's the spring or what. The first one even left his wife...

Inger, I've got the latest updates to FF on all my computers. It's only the Linux one that's messed up. All the others (Win. 7, Vista, XP) all look the same - just fine. I hope one of these guys can get his head out of the clouds and help you! I know there's some other Linux users around here... somewhere....hello?
