A question on displaying site visits...

Hi great and wise web designers! :)

At the foot of the site I'm working on I want to be able to show how many hits the site has had each week, each month, and each year, and I want this information to be visible on all of the site's pages.

And, ideally, I'd like the information to appear as it does in the attached file. How do I do this so it is fully automated and updates itself upon each hit? Is this even possible in CofferCup?

Those kinds of things are generated by separate services, and you place their counters in your page. Google 'web site hit counters' or something to that effect and see what pops up. I don't have any particular one to recommend; - maybe somebody else does...

On second thought, I probably should not have responded to your post, since you address it specifically to "great and wise web designers"! I am most definitely not one of those! :lol:

My hosting provider tells me everything, Daily users , Week users , month users , the ip's , the robots , the country that saw the website , the links they came from , etc .... Its everything in graphics and tables really organized....i think the name of the program in Cpanel that tells you all that is Awstats , http://awstats.sourceforge.net/
:/ i am not sure if going to the website you can do much, i use Cpanel and i just click on a bottom and they appear immediately.

Webalizer is another program that many hosts use to convey site statistics. Usually, you can find it in the http://www.yoursite.com/stats/ directory.

Most individuals without great web programming knowledge just use a free hit counter service, or use a free counter provided by their hosting service. others install simple hit counter scripts to display simple counters.

But to get indepth like you are asking is not a simple task. You're better off with checking with what your hosting service offers or use a free ad driven counter service.

There is a free service that you can get just about any stat you want from your visitors for the most part. I haven't delved into how deep it goes so forgive me if it's deeper than we want it to be as I don't believe in gleening information from people that they don't know they are providing. I don't think this does that, it does capture things like IP addresses but then most stat software does that so that is typical.

Just my 2 cents worth.
Hit counters are meaningless as they really do not tell you anything about how often your pages were viewed.
Your visitors also don't really care how many hits your pages have had and it does make your pages amateurish by trying to impress your visitors.

I would also recommend statcounter, but for your own private information.
The amount and type of information gathered is critical to you fine tuning your pages.

I feel you are right. Web content should benefit the visitor, not the author.
