This is only peripherally on-topic but it relates to Wordpress, plug-ins and security. I've been testing the Akismet anti-spam plug-in for a couple of months, now. I used to have all comments on my blog moderated and I would get sometimes a dozen spam comments a day. Really got to be a pain wading through them.
Akismet has now caught over 800 spam comments, and only one questionable one has gotten through in over two months. I'm confident enough now in its abilities that I've removed moderation from comments.
There have been absolutely no issues with .htaccess, or anything else for that matter. Seamless, simple and effective.
