Checked server compatibility (Apache-OK); created one test user in WAM to protect a test sub-directory that contains a simple index.html text file, uploaded files to server via WAM (successful). When I view the root level .htaccess and .htpasswd files and the sub-directory .htaccess file in BBEdit, there is no code in them except one line, which is just the FTP address followed by /.htaccess or /.htpasswd respectively.
It is a WordPress-built php site. When testing a link to the 'protected' sub-directory in a browser, just get a WordPress error page that shows home page masthead and sidebar with error message where the home page content would normally be - no login box. Is this because it is WordPress php?

Any ideas please?
