How did you create your site?

If the whole site is to be protected, the best thing is to create a folder on the server and put the pages into it, BUT let the login page stay outside the folder!

If the access to your site is blocked completely, it could mean that the login page also is 'protected', i.e. the pages are all in the same folder/domain root.
Ha en riktig god dag!

After the wizard is complete, all you do is pick the folder or file on the left hand side you want to protect and then the user on the right. if you select the TOP FOLDER and then a user, this will lock your entire site.

Just selectively pick wich files/folders you want to protect and you will be all set.

I have found that I have to go in and edit the .htaccess file in the root directory and remove the :
AuthUserFile / usr/home etc
part of the file in order to get the site open to the general public. I now keep a copy of the .htaccess file in a folder in the root directory of my PC and I just copy it over the updated .htaccess within the Server root directory.
This then allows the public in.
The security on the protected files seems to be excellent.

Hi
I have do the wizard and do the Scott's suggest. It's ok but when I do the login I receive an error.
see at the end of this post.

I have create a folder, called protect, in this folder I have insert tthe login page (http://www.miotorneo.com/protect/login.html) but when I click on one of the link ( which can reach only those who have made ??the correct login) I have the error.

Maybe the login page must stay out of the protect folder?
I have protect only two page ( http://www.miotorneo.com/protect/ar002.html and http://www.miotorneo.com/protect/ar001.html , and not all the folder......)

id fabio
pwd maranello

for test

thank you

I want to protect only some subdirectories that contain files, not the entire website. The public should be able to see all the basic html files, but the subdirectories contain pps and pdf files that I do not want the public to see - only selected users. How do I do that?
