The site was functioning correctly, then it wasn't! Maybe there was maintenance on the server that caused it, but the site won't display correctly with the original .htaccess file name.

Did you try contacting your host?
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Turns out 1and1 had upgraded the server and the old hosting package was no longer compatible.
They offered to upgrade the account to the new package (7pence more expensive a month) and give us 3 months credit for the inconvenience!
Hopefully WAM will be back up and running soon following the upgrade. Thanks for your help but I think it is now sorted.
