On my existing form, I am trying to modify that if field 'Military Branch' is any of the 7 branches, I want to show only the paygrades for that branch.

After I choose 'Using Display Rules', the drop down box beside "If" does not show "Branch" for me to select.

Any ideas????

Don't think it works like you think. Or I am misunderstanding. I think what you will have to do is create separate 'lists' of available ranks for each service, then display the particular list you want depending on the service selected. So, if you have 7 services, you would need seven 'lists' of ranks. Then using the display rule you would display the list according to the service selected. Make sense?

You will need a specific element that lists each of the 7 branches in it such as:

Military Branches to choose from:
o Branch 1
o Branch 2
o Branch 3
o Branch 4
o Branch 5
o Branch 6
o Branch 7

Then you would create each of the 7 elements that go with those 7 branches that shows the paygrades for them.

Make sure to name them accordingly so they show correctly in your dropdown list easy to decipher which is which.

Now you set the rules on the paygrade elements one by one, not on the Military Branch element.

Choose the first Paygrade branch and set it to show only if the following occur:
1. Branch 1 "is" chosen
2. Branch 2 is "not" chosen
3. Branch 3 is "not" chosen ... and so on through each of them.

You will need to do this for each of the elements so they show up correctly (and not show up correctly too).

NOTE: You can try to do this without setting all the "not" states, I would suggest setting up a few of the Branches for the correct "is" chosen setup, and then test your form to make sure that only what you want to show will show. If that works then you should be fine without doing the "not" states. The "not" states are most definitely needed if you have any text input boxes that are included though or they will not be cleared correctly.

Hope that helps :)

Yes, it makes perfect sense and that is what I was attempting to do. In the drop down list to 'Choose Form Element', the field 'Branch' is not listed for me to select so that I can list the ranks for that branch.

If I highlight 'Military Branch' on my form and then choose 'Use Display Rules' under properties, the other properties below('choose operator', 'choose value' and 'insert' and 'add condition') are grayed out and still there's no 'Branch' in the drop down list for 'Choose Form Element'.

I do believe that the field 'Branch' is the only one of all my fields that are not included in the 'Choose Form Element' drop down list.

I do need to complete this so please don't give up on me. If you need more info or clarity, just let me know.

Thanks

First question, when you created that drop down for 'Military Branch', what did you name it? Branch, or Military Branch, or did you leave it as 'select ##' ? Just checking because it won't show up for a conditional unless you are looking for what that field is named. Just because you 'labled' it Miltary Branch, you also have to 'Name' it. Highlight the field and check under 'properties' for the 'name'.

The field name is 'Branch', the title for that field on the form is 'Military Branch'

Duh! Sorry, I read your original post wrong I think. If you highlight 'Military Branch' then select show using conditional, Branch will not show up there. That is the one selected. As previously stated, you need to create 7 different fields which lists your ranks. One for each branch. When you select a 'rank list' then Branch will show and you can select to 'show' the list when Branch is whatever rank. Make sense?

I appreciate all that all of you have done to help me, but there still may be a misunderstanding and I am taking the full blame. Let me try to explain one more time and if this still doesn't help then I have another way to go that you may be able to help with that.

If I understand your latest response, I think that will be impractable for what I need to do. What I need is when a user chooses a branch, then the Paygrade(titled 'Pay Grade') field should populate the 'Paygrade' drop down list for them to choose their rank.

This is real simple to do in HTML code but trying to make Form Builder understand what I am trying to do is difficult.

I even tried it by not clicking any field on the form and still 'Branch' was not included in the drop down.

Would it help you understand what I am looking at if I send you the .fb file?

Thanks
