Can someone point me to the area in the responsive default CSS file to modify the space/padding between the form fields? I would like to have very little space between them, making less of a scroll on a long form.

The only thing you can do is play with the padding and Margins. Pick the them, and then zero out all the Top and Bottom margins and paddings and see what that does for you.
Once you have your form totally set to go you can always edit the CSS to adjust this too. If this is something you want to do on a regular basis rather than just one form, you can always edit the theme itself so that you don't have to worry about your changes done manually being overwritten later if you update the form in the program.
