I've been building a payment form with multiple payments. Everything had gone well for the 5 hours I worked on it, saving every 15 minutes or so.

I saved and closed Form Builder, when I opened it up again ane clicked on the form, I received this error message:

Runtime error!
this application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Form Builder then crashes.

Other saved forms open --- no problem.

I found the payment form's file I created, and it shows 0kb.

Anyone know how can I restore the form? Or do I have to make it all over again?

Thanks in advance,
Robert

Sounds like something bad happen. If the fb file is broke then yes you'll have to start over.
Sorry about that. Make a backup copy as you go this time so that if you get to the same step in building your form and it crashes again you'll be able to restore it back to that spot and report the issue.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Also make sure you're using the most recent version of the program. I seem to recall something about one of the versions having issues with saving 0kb files about a month or so ago? I might have this mixed up with a different program, but I don't think so. Could be you're still on that version and just need to update and do the form again :)

Thanks. What is the best way to make continual back-up copies?
And this only happened after I downloaded the latest version yesterday. Not very encouraging.

Well if it's the newest version then it's most likely not the program itself doing it (at least not the bug that was fixed from before, and to give CC Kudos, they fixed that almost immediately as soon as they got a report about it so it's all good there :) )

Making backups is as easy as saving the file, and copying the file from one folder to another, that's all there is to it. You can create a folder inside the folder that the file is actually being saved in and just copy it into there every so often.

Another way is to periodically save the file as a different name. This way you still have whatever you're working on, but have a copy of it without the hassle of having to move a copy of it elsewhere.

Best way to do this would be to name the file, then just add number increments to the end of it when you do a 'Save As' rather than just a save. So if your file name is something like:

Contact_Form.fb

Do a 'Save As' within the program and save it as:

Contact_Form1.fb

Just change that number up each time you do this so you always know the highest numbered one is the last one used.

Go back and delete old files as needed and you're set to go and this way you can always go back to the last one you saved if this should happen again.

IF it does happen again though, definitely report this as that's pretty strange it would do this now. Good luck and let us know how it goes :)

Thank you. I already figured that way of backing up. I thought perhaps there would be a less cumbersome approach. It's a good-sized form and the program doesn't appear completely stable if one moves too fast (so to speak), so I didn't want go back and forth very much, perhaps causing an overload of anxiety for the app.

From your information, I think the problem might have been caused by upgrading to the new version when the form had been started in the previous version. I hope this won't effect the other forms I have already use, if I have to edit them in the 2.3 5217

Thanks for your help.

I hope it won't mess them up also, it really shouldn't though, not sure why it did with that one unless maybe that was just one of those forms that got created i that buggy version that got replaced right away and you just didn't realize the update was there? I dunno, but...

What I would highly suggest is to make a backup copy of all your forms right now and put them in a safe place. This way if something should mess up you can then report it with a CC Support Ticket and send them the original file that you started with before it messed up. Plus it's good to have a backup for strange occurrances that have nothing to do with the program such as HD crashes, system crashes that delete files or at the very least lose all your updates etc.

Anyways, I wish you luck and don't worry about stressing the program at all, I'm working on a very long form and so far have only had a few little quirks and most of them were my doing lol. It can handle long forms and it shouldn't give you any other issues. Start up a new form and see what happens from there and let us know how you get on with it :)
