Option Lists - Auto Update - Post ID...
Hi Folks,
I have a form with an option list (of employees).
If I want to add a new employee, I add him/her to the option list, but then I have to rebuild the form and upload it and all the directories etc, to the webserver.
Is there a way that I can simply add a new employee to the option list file, and have the form automatically "see" this employee... ie without having to go through the process of rebuilding the form?
thanks,
Mike

I know there is, there's most likely a file you can edit to do just that (Eric or Scott or someone will be around to give more info at some point I'm sure), but...
I did want to emphasize that if you do it this way it will not get imported into the program ever as it doesn't have the ability to detect changes as you're making changes to the actual files after they have been exported and the program doesn't "read" those files, it only exports them.
If you ever need to make changes to your form you will have to do one of two things,
you will have to either add all the names to the list when you do each edit (add any names that you've added since the last edit that is),
or you'll have to copy that list to an external safe place until you're done and then re-edit that file and add them back in after each edit.
Seems a lot of work to me to save less than a minute of upload time.
Uploading really isn't that hard to do, export the folder, upload the files within it, you're done. Even if you had to do that once a day it's still less than a minute (ok maybe 2 if you're not quick at manipulating files lol) of your day vs. having to do it all manually at some point of manipulation each time you update the form.
Now... having said that, if you know 100% that the form itself will never get changed again, then definitely it would be faster and easier to edit a file.

There are really only 2 things that you need to do:
1. Upload the form.cfg.php
2. Upload the generated HTML file.
If you run into any issues, upload the entire form.

You'll have to redo the form and add the option in to your dropdown as the validation will trip on anything added after the fact just to the html.

Folks,
Thanks a million for your replies...... great work!
I think I will leave it as it is then.
The reason for my original question is that I have clients who need this facility, and they aren't all that computer iterate.... so they get me to do all this for them, rather than running programs, exporting, doing FTP etc... all this is a bit daunting for them.
I just thought that if there wa a simple way for them to simply add the names on to the end of a file, they could do that on their own.
thanks again folks!
