Ok Bryan I had the same issue and here's how I finally got it to work. Hand enter you date that you want then select it from the calendar when the calendar scrolls back to your date.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Thanks Eric - that did it. In the field you can type - in my case - 1/1/1920. Once that shows up, click it in the calendar widget and it sticks. Then the next field (to) type in the date (in my case - 12/31/1999). Select if from the calendar widget that pops up. It sticks.

(note - if you try it the other way you will get an error message, so the oldest date first... newest date second)
