Hello again!

Thank you all for all the help you've given me on all my other issues :)

My new issue is......

wait for it.....

waaaait.....

ok...

I want to be able to watch live tv AND record it on my computer.

We have DirecTV and all of our dvr's are HD.

In my office I have a wall outlet with 2 of those coaxial cable things - currently unused.

BUT I would like to watch and record live tv by WIRELESS means.

Is this possible?

If so, what all do I need? Some kind of thingie to plug into the DVR and my computer?

My computer does have a tv tuner thing in it but for some reason, I don't have any kind of software installed on my computer!

Here's a c & p with some info on my computer:

HP Pavilion p6180t customizable Desktop PC

* • Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
* • Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad processor Q9550 [2.83GHz, 12MB L2, 1333MHz FSB]
* • SAVE $30! 8GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM [4 DIMMs]
* • 1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
* • 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 [DVI, HDMI, VGA]
* • LightScribe 16X max. DVD+/-R/RW SuperMulti drive
* • Integrated 10/100/1000 (Gigabit) Ethernet, No wireless LAN
* • 15-in-1 memory card reader, 2 USB, audio
* • TV tuner, dual format ATSC-NTSC with PVR, remote
* • Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
* • 20% OFF! HP 2.1 30W stereo speakers with subwoofer and remote control
* • HP multimedia keyboard and HP premium laser mouse
* • Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
* • No additional security software
* • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

And here is a picture of the back of my computer so you can see all the plug thingies:

Now, I'm not sure if the built in tuner/dvr/pvr thingie is HD, probably not. That's okay.

So what I would love to do is be able to somehow configure everything so I can watch my Directv channels on my computer wireless-ly. I'm assuming there are some kind of adapters needed to do the wireless thing. The hd dvr in the main living area has a thing in the front - is it an hdmi thing? Here's a pic:

I couldn't turn the dvr around to see what's on the back - I'm sure just the usual stuff.

SOOOOO

If I have to use cables - can I just use a coaxial cable thing and plug it into the wall in my office and in the back of my computer? Does my computer even have coaxial hole/plug thingies?

OMG I'm so annoying!

And I don't know what kind of software I'll need - so some advice on that would be great too.

Thank you so much in advance for any help on this. I thought it would be a simple thing but I can't figure it out. I checked the info that came with my computer and it only shows how to do it for cable - we have satellite so I guess it's different.

Thanks again and I hope you all had a GREAT weekend! :D

There are many DVR applications out there:

Windows 7 also comes with Media Center built in, which isn't too bad either.

Darn! Was hoping to be able to chat live w/you :D

I've got your email addy already silly! :)

I don't have Windows 7 - but I've got that Windows Media Center thing. I followed the directions to set up the tv connection but it couldn't find any connections....probably because my computer isn't hooked up to my DVR?????

That Freevo thing - if I download it - how will I connect it so I can watch Directv stuff?

I am SO CONFUSED LOL

One thing I've figured out is that I need to connect the DVR in the main living area to the internet. Uhh yeah that might help lol!

The wiring in our house is kinda weird. We had this house built about 2 1/2 yrs ago and for some reason, my Dad had only ONE room wired with an outlet thingie for internet access. We have an actual separate line coming in for internet access. At that time we only had the one main office - where the internet access outlet was - so it was all good. 1 1/2 yrs ago I got this new computer so my Dad went did some rewiring and I now have a wall outlet thingie with an ethernet plug-a-ma-bob. LOL I just made myself laugh w/that one..wow...:D

So anyhoo, the computer that's in the main office has a wireless/wired router.

What I'm wondering is if there is some kind of wireless adapter out there that will hook into the DVR so I can maybe access it from my computer wireless-ly???? If not then we'll either have to run a phone line from the main office to the main living area and that will be a pain in the bum.

Ugh...why is this so darn difficult?!?!

WAIT! But in my room I have the 2 coaxial cable outlets and I have them on the back of my computer as well. So what would happen if I connected my computer to the outlet w/the coaxial cable? Oh what would happen? But first I need to buy one. Don't have an extra one. DARN!

Any more tips/advice? :) :) :)

Not sure about Satellite,

But I know that with cable service if you just connect the coax to your computer open Media Center and run through the config (it is relatively painless) wizard you'll have a interactive channel guide, and DVR, etc.

I don't know enough about Satellite to help you specifically but you could always call your providers tech support line and ask them.
