I have a client who wants to use first name and last name as her web address.
I'm not finding a very clear answer any where.
What is the best option to separate the names?
"underscore" "hyphen" or "dot"
ie. first_last.com
thanks

Most addresses I have seen that way use a hyphen. http://first-last.com

You could do just the last name, and then every member of her family can have their own subdomain. That would be cool

Aren't you a little short for a Storm Trooper?

Thanks guys for the info.
This isn't going to be a family site.
She's an author for different farming magazines.
So it's a name recognition thing.

personally, I would not include any of them myself. I am sure there are reasons to do so, but... my reasoning is this:
When I search for a website the first thing I try to do is enter the name of the company, person etc. into the address bar and see if it goes to their site. I know for me, the last thing I'm going to do is sit and try every combo of possible keys to enter that name, I'm gonna type:
firstlast.com
Keep it simple is what I say, but of course there may be reasons your client needs it to be separated so this is just my opinion as an end user looking for sites.

Personally, I never search from the address bar. I use the search form on Google.

CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!
I don't search from the address bar either, I just first see if the site exists with the basic name that one would expect it to have
... Then I search if I need to

Most of the time it's the almighty Google for me also.
