Here in Norway we are being warned that one day we might find our computers locked and the files encrypted, and we would have to pay big $$ to have access to them again. On my PC I have Win 10 and am using Defender. And I delete all 'good offers' from my mailbox without opening them. Will that be enough to stop such crap?
Ha en riktig god dag!

A local radio station lost all of their music because of this type of thing. There's always somebody out there willing to reap havoc on others for fun or money. Just gotta be careful of what you click on.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I think the ultimate protection is a full image backup of each of the drives one uses, and keeping those image backups on an external drive that isn't linked to the computer except during their creation.

Windows 10 includes its own facilities for doing this, as shown, for example, here. I personally do it far more frequently than they suggest there, and use another company's imaging software.

The advantage of doing regular full image backups is that one is in a position to recover from lesser computer ills as well - and even complete hard drive failure.
