Is anyone else out there having printing problems with Adobe Reader?

I have version 9.4.1

My printer, HP OfficeJet 6500, can do duplex printing. Up until recently I have always been able to print on both sides of a PDF file. Now I can't. In fact when I am in the print dialog box in Adobe Reader, I can't even bring up my printer preferrences box to tell it to do duplex printing.

I even went to the control panel and changed the printer prefereences there (global) and it still won't work. Yet, in any other program, I can print on two sides.

Where did you get the pdf document, and what permissions does it have? Adobe Acrobat has many permissions that can be allowed or denied. Like turning on or off the typewriter tool in Reader, allowing file save, etc.

One of the permissions is allow duplex printing. Could this be your issue (probably isn't)? If not then you might try downgrading back to Reader 8, or upgrading to Reader 10. You can also check for printer driver upgrade or try a driver rollback.

or upgrading to Reader 10.

There's a version 10?? I will check that out.

It has not been any one document. It did it on most PDF files. But between yesterday and today I have had no problems printing duplex. Really strange. It's a new laptop with Windows 7.

I don't think you can change the permission stuff right?

Permissions are not changeable with Reader (that is the selling point of Acrobat), even when you give out free stuff you still need income to pay the light bill.

Windows 7's embedded plug & play print drivers weren't all exactly full featured (on the bright side they did work). Since it is working now maybe there was an Windows update installed overnight?

If the problem recurs you could always check HP's site and see if they have Win 7driver's and software for Printer you can download. (but I always say if it ain't broke don't fix it!)
