Hey guys, I am thinking about purchasing one of these, and right when I get the thought Apple has to go and say they are working on a 13 inch iPAD as well as an iPhone, have you guys heard any rumors about a new Surface? I'm not sure who to go with!? :/

Just remember that the Surface cannot run Windows applications. I have seen many people buy one thinking it was Windows 8 and not realize it has the same limitations as other tablets.

Probably comes down to what do you want to do with your tablet. Games, surfing, email etc. Figure out what it is you will do the most with it and see which device best fits the bill. Personally I love my iPad. Using it right now actually to respond to this post. ;)

Haven't heard anything good or bad about the Surface, but I can tell you that I love my iPad and haven't regretted it a single day. :)

I'm quite pleased with my Ipad too. Then I won a Samsung half size tablet which is also good. I don't need any more windows than what I have (WinXP laptop, WinVista laptop, Win8 laptop, Win7 desktop, and then 20 windows in my house that need cleaning now and then :P )

Wow then maybe I should weigh these pro's and con's and see what the deal is. Cause quite frankly I wanted to use Windows programs on it too :(.

You can't install "software" on any tablet as far as I know, but if you're looking at tablets iPad is definitely nice.

UncleMap, If controlling the software installed on a tablet interests you, look into booting & running a Linux variant.

One way to go is to start with a tablet that runs Android (Google's tablet & phone-customization of Linux. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_android). For example, here's info about installing Ubuntu Linux on the Nexus7 tablet: http://news.yahoo.com/ubuntu-now-availa … 0246.html. There are many similar citations and how-to-do-it pages out there on the Web.

If that seems too risky, wait for the first quarter of 2014 for tablets with factory-installed Ubuntu: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/02/ … this-week/

Or, if you want immediate techno-bragging rights, buy one of these Ekoore gadgets: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2038859/ … ows-8.html

This discussion seems a bit far afield from CoffeeCup at the moment. However, this is the Brave New World of computing in which we are all going to live, CoffeeCup included, as Microsoft loses its grip on the user interface and Linux continues splintering.

Ok cool, I guess i'll just stick with what I know and that is Window's. I'm giong to see if I can't get a student discount as well so i'm going to give it a try and see if I can get a Microsoft Surface. I really need it for everyday tasks, and Microsoft Office is a big plus for the things i'm working on. If I can't get one at a good price i'll probably hold out for another tablet. Thanks for all the advice guys!!

The Microsoft Surface CAN run all Windows software. I have the Pro version and it works great!! I sold the two iPads i own after purchasing the Surface. The iPad was too limited on what it could do.

Kevin, how do you install programmes on that Win Surface? Would it be possible to install e.g. CC software?
